PARENT AIDE PROGRAM:
Parent Aides are trained professionally supervised
volunteers or paid
staff assisting parents
under stress as well
as those whose children
are at risk of abuse
or neglect. Parent Aides
work directly in
the client's home serving
as parent advocates,
and positive role models.
Parent Aides are
non-judgmental, nurturing,
supportive and parent-focused.

PARENT EDUCATION CLASSES:
Parenting classes provide an opportunity
for all in the community
to learn skills
that will help them
develop cooperation,
responsibility, and
self-esteem in their
children. Parents
also learn non-violent
positive discipline
techniques, and ways
to communicate effectively
with their children.
Our curriculums include:
S.T.E.P. - Systematic
Training for Effective
Parenting
Parent will learn practical approaches to
using discipline
and communication
techniques
that provide a positive
relationship between
parents and their
children.
For parents of children ages 2-12 (conducted
in English and Spanish)
Breakthrough
Parenting
Would you like to
replace the struggles
in
your family with
cooperation? This
is a 10-week
course designed to
increase your skills
and
knowledge as a parent
using discipline
to
teach resolving conflict
effectively, promoting
self-control vs.
parental control,
understanding
how children think
and having age-appropriate
expectations. For
parents of children
ages
2-12.
Back in Control
The whole family attends this class. A highly
effective parenting
skills training designed
to help children
change their behavior
even
if they are most
resistant to change.
Effective for children elementary through
high school
INFORMATION & REFERRAL:
The Center's staff is available to help community
residents locate
resources, which
will assist
children and families,
in a wide variety
of areas.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH:
Staff members are available to groups for
workshops to address
agency services, child
abuse identification
and reporting, and practical
parenting tips or
can include other appropriate
topics, which would
be of most value. Groups
can include those
from schools, civic organizations,
businesses and places
of worship.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS:
In-home Parent Aide
Parent-Aides work
with parents in their
home.
Applicants must be
at least 21 years
of age
and a high school
graduate. It is mandatory
to attend the training
workshops. Adequate
means of transportation
is also a requirement.
In-home Parent Aide
volunteers are subject
to a background check.
Duties and responsibilities of the In-home
Parent Aide are:

Regular weekly in-home visits with client
family.

Help clients become aware of their own needs
and family needs.

Provide child development information and
encourage client
to attend parenting classes,
if needed.

Submit progress notes on each client.

Attend periodic in-service trainings.
Childcare Volunteers:
Exchange Club Family Support Center provides
parenting classes.
These classes are nine and ten week sessions at the Center. Childcare
is provided utilizing responsible volunteers.
Childcare volunteers would assist in caring for children ranging
from infants to age 12.
Duties and responsibilities
include:
- Following through with day and time commitments.
- Following directions / instructions from
supervisor.
- Being friendly, entertaining and creative
with age appropriate
activities.
- Communicate any concern about the child,
i.e. health, well-being,
to an agency staff
person as soon
as possible.
